Following in the footsteps of a long list of incredible events in our Murray River twin towns, a brand new event is launching in Echuca Moama this October with storytelling at its core.
Echuca Moama Festival of Stories will bring together writers, musicians, artists and storytellers from across Australia for three relaxed days by the river, filled with talks, readings, live music, workshops and shared experiences around town.
Echuca Moama, on Yorta Yorta Country, is a landscape shaped by connection – where three rivers meet and, for thousands of years, people have gathered to share knowledge, traditions and stories.
That enduring spirit of locals and travellers finding common ground through storytelling continues in the inaugural Festival of Stories.
A collective of like-minded passionate locals have pooled their expertise to create an event that aims to unite people through the common language of storytelling.
From October 16-18, Echuca Moama will welcome some of Australia’s leading writers, musicians and performers and the organisers can’t wait for you to join them.
The premise of this new event on the Echuca Moama calendar is that everyone has a story to share, and the uniqueness of this gathering lies in the way it will bring together and unearth both local storytellers alongside some of Australia’s most well known and loved storytellers, across a myriad of platforms.
“Stories can be told in so many ways: through song, art, the written word, podcasts and performance,” says Festival of Stories Chair Christy O’Brien.
“We encourage both locals and visitors to spend the weekend soaking up stories at long literary lunches under the vines, live music after dark, country wisdom shared over scones and tea, art and comedy, lively conversations and creative workshops you won’t find anywhere else.
“From author conversations and performances to art and guided nature walks, this is a festival to enjoy with friends, at your own pace. Bring your book club. Bring a friend,” she says.
