Mark Brandi

Mark Brandi is a crime author of Italian heritage who grew up in his family’s pub in rural Victoria. He worked in the criminal justice system before turning to full-time writing. Mark’s debut Wimmera won the British Crime Writers’ Association Debut Dagger. His subsequent novels — including The Rip, Southern Aurora and The Others — explore the complexity, isolation and beauty of regional Australia.

Mark is a member of the Writers Victoria network, which provides a treasured connection to the wider writing community. He loves to write about rural and regional places and is drawn to the margins of society in his fiction. During his time with us at the Festival we’ll be exploring the inspiration behind his novels and how he features ‘place’ at the centre of his award-winning prose.
